Copying files from a host machine into a DaDesktop machine
A frequently requested new feature is the ability to copy files from a Trainer's own laptop or desktop into a DaDesktop machine. These might be presentations, installation ISO files for use in a nested virtualisation system that allows you to run multiple servers and desktops, or simply general files needed for the specific training application.
The team has added a new, easy-to-use file transfer feature to our latest Windows 10 and most Linux templates, allowing files to be easily dragged and dropped from the host machine (i.e., your own laptop or desktop) to the DaDesktop machine.
Currently, file transfers are limited to one file at a time. If you need to copy several files, you can create a zip archive and drag and drop that over as well. The transfer uses chunking to send large files efficiently, and works best with a fast fibre internet connection. Any folder structure within the archive, e.g., a zip file, is preserved.
For Linux templates, there isn't a desktop shortcut to the Uploads folder on the desktop like in Windows above. Instead, the files are located at:
/home/student/uploads-to-dadesktop
