DaDesktop

Hyper-V Server

UPDATED April 2024

Most applications work perfectly fine when prepared in the Fresh Start machine using DaDesktop (DD). But there are a couple of applications that, due to the cloning process, don’t work as expected and need a few extra steps to run properly.

Fresh Start Fix Notes
  1. Please note this is a generic guide to fixing this application when using Fresh Start. Steps may differ depending on your exact setup configuration.

  2. Summary – Fix on Fresh Start as below. Hyper-V has a problem with duplicate MAC addresses on the External switch when cloned from the FreshStart machine, so we either choose the second pre-configured Intel network connection or remove the external switch in the FreshStart machine before cloning – which is what I explain in detail below.

Fix process

1. Below shows the Hyper-V Manager application. Right-click to select the Virtual Switch Manager dialog box.

2. In the Virtual Switch Manager dialog box below, select the 'External' switch as shown, then choose the Intel PRO/1000 network connection. Note: This is only available when using newer Windows 10 templates, v71 and higher. Press OK, and save config if necessary. Close the Hyper-V Manager application.

3. Continue with FreshStart machine configuration as required and, once it’s complete, shut down the machine from inside the VM, waiting until it has fully stopped. Then clone the FreshStart machine to the Trainer and Participants’ machines as needed.

The Hyper-V server should now run correctly on the Trainers’ and Participants’ machines. Without this change, participants may see each other’s machines instead of their own, because cloning creates duplicate MAC addresses on the External switch when the machine is cloned from FreshStart.
