Standalone Desktops Overview
First up, what do we mean by a Standalone Desktop in DaDesktop?
There is a great overview of the different Desktops here. But in a nutshell, a 'Standalone' desktop is a machine that isn't necessarily used during a course itself. It's a separate desktop that stands alone, able to be used before or after a course, or simply on its own without being tied to any course.
The standalone is especially handy in that way.
Typical reasons for creating standalone desktops:
- Prepping training course material that you can re-use over and over, independent of any course, or keep for future needs.
-
Whenever you need a flexible machine – perhaps with a different operating system (Linux, Windows) – to test out ideas in a safe environment.
Features:
- Shareable links give full access to anyone who has the link!
- If idle, it’ll shut down automatically after 24 hours
Cost:
- Setting up a desktop is free.
- But starting one up will cost you.
- The cost depends on the number of units, which is calculated from CPU, memory, and disk space. An extra charge applies for Windows.
- If you’re enrolled in a course as a student or trainer, you’ll receive free credits that can go towards standalones.
- If you do not connect to your standalone for over a month, it will be removed.
Tip of Use:
Starts with "clonefrom#" followed by the keyword to search desktops from which the desktops were cloned.
